ABSTRACT This research aimed to investigate how the formation and consolidation of the stereotype of the witch character in children's tales occurred, making a study on how this figure became a negative female archetype, which occurred from historical, symbolic and religious events.Leaving for an inquiry about how this construction of this female figure model influenced the permanence in children's narratives, so the general objective is to investigate the construction of the witch's figure according to its physical aspects according to the duality of good and evil, and then the specific objectives that are to identify her particularities, her role between goodness and evil in children's tales and analyze how stereotypes influence the way visual elements are linked to the female body. The research has a qualitative approach and bibliographic nature, being supported by authors such as Federici (2019;2023), Delumeau (2009), Jung (2000;2012), Russell and Alexander (2008), Coelho (200;2012) Neumanann (1999), Bettelheim (2002) and Jacoby (2009), among other authors. The research concludes that this representation of the witch did not arise spontaneously, but that it was a result of historical processes such as witch hunting that occurred between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, being one of the processes of inquisition supported by the document Malleus Maleficarum, which a catalog responsible for denouncing to women who had natural knowledge in question the healers and midwives, with this arises the physical and also moral association, such as old age, ugliness and also the woman isolated from society. Thus, children's literature reorganized this pattern and exercised this symbolic function of the figure of the witch in children's narratives, demonstrating the duality between good and evil, helping for the emotional elaboration of the child about fear. Finally, it is concluded that the female image is linked to the negative by suffering these patriarchal processes that have inverted natural knowledge in threat to society. However, there is in contemporary times a resignification about this female model that points to new forms of research for this representation of the witch in children's literature.
