ABSTRACT This research consists of analyzing the teaching of children 's literature in a public network teaching institution, located in the city of São Bernardo - MA, in order to analyze how this teaching is performed internally in the classroom, highlighting the way in which methodological approaches are carried out by the teachers and if the learners identify with their learning in this methodological paradigm. The qualitative methodology was used for this work, combining aspects of field research with bibliographic research. Already as a research tool, a questionnaire was used with the Portuguese language teachers in the outstanding school, analyzing the teaching / learning. In the bibliographical part the history of the children's literature was discussed, embracing its theory and practice. In order to deepen the research, we sought the discussions of some theorists as: Ligia Cademartori (2010), Peter Hunt (2010), Zilberman (2003), Lajolo and Zilberman (2007), Costa (2007), Cagneti (1996). As a result, the objective is to investigate whether children's literature establishes an important role in the education of children, enabling them to find ways that are conducive to a world beyond the real, and give them possibilities of imagination and dreams. Finally, to calculate if children's literature obtains a concrete and satisfactory function once it is acted on in the teaching practices in the classrooms.pt_BR
