A hospitalidade de São Bernardo, Maranhão, na perspectiva de estudantes de Turismo

Abstract

RESUMO: O objetivo proposto desta pesquisa é analisar a hospitalidade no município de São Bernardo/MA para os alunos do curso de turismo do Centro de Ciências de São Bernardo, da Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA/CCSB). Metodologicamente, a pesquisa se caracteriza como exploratória e descritiva, realizada por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica com abordagem qualitativa em que foram aplicados questionários com os participantes da pesquisa de forma online e divulgados pelo WhatsApp. Os participantes são alunos do curso de bacharelado em turismo da UFMA/CCSB, sendo que dos 56 alunos ativos, 31 colaboraram com a pesquisa. Os alunos foram categorizados em dois grupos: (i) alunos naturais e moradores de São Bernardo, nomeados no decorrer do texto por AN (abreviatura para “alunos naturais”); e (ii) alunos não naturais de São Bernardo, porém moradores no município, nomeados no decorrer do texto por ANN (abreviatura para “alunos não naturais”). Como principais resultados, identificou-se que os entendimentos a respeito da hospitalidade, ambos alunos (AN e ANN) atribuem aspectos relacionados ao bem receber, à oferta de conforto, bem-estar, à recepção e à acolhida do outro, seja ele turista ou não. Essa concordância entre os grupos de alunos também ocorre a respeito dos entendimentos sobre hospitalidade urbana. Ambos relacionam à hospitalidade urbana questões (infra)estruturais, de acolhimento, de bem-estar, equipamentos urbanos, equipamentos turísticos oferecidos na cidade. Referente à concepção de hospitaleira a São Bernardo/MA, houve divergências nas percepções dos alunos. Dentro dos próprios grupos de alunos AN e de alunos ANN houve percepções distintas, o que reforça o caráter polissêmico e individual da hospitalidade. Quando relacionada a concepção hospitaleira, os motivos direcionam-se a aspectos de simpatia, acolhimento e educação de moradores do município. Em contrapartida, quando não atribuída a concepção de hospitaleira, os motivos estão relacionados à falta de (infra)estrutura urbana, acessibilidade, opções de lazer e entretenimento, diversidade de restaurante e meios de hospedagens, saneamento, sinalização e informações virtuais. Com isso, apesar de aspectos positivos, concluiu-se que São Bernardo, ainda, não pode ser considerada uma cidade hospitaleira. É notável a necessidade de evolução em termos de infraestrutura, segurança, opções de lazer e acessibilidade, sendo esses obstáculos para considerar São Bernardo/MA uma cidade hospitaleira. O município precisa articular maneiras de suprir estes aspectos para, assim, poder ser considerado um local hospitaleiro tanto para os turistas quanto para seus moradores.__ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to analyze hospitality in the municipality of São Bernardo/MA, Brazil from the Bachelor in Tourism course at the São Bernardo Science Center, Federal University of Maranhão perspective. Methodologically, the research is characterized as exploratory and descriptive, having carried out through bibliographic research with a qualitative approach in which questionnaires were applied to the research participants online and disseminated by WhatsApp. The participants are students on the bachelor's degree course in tourism at UFMA/CCSB. Of the 56 active students, 31 collaborated with the research. The students were categorized into two groups: (i) students who were born in and live in São Bernardo, referred to in the text as AN (abbreviation for "natural students"); and (ii) students who were not born in São Bernardo but lived in the municipality, referred to in the text as ANN (abbreviation for "non-natural students"). The main results were that both students' (AN and ANN) understanding of hospitality attributed aspects related to welcoming, offering comfort, well-being, receiving, and welcoming others, whether they were tourists or not. This agreement between the student groups also occurs regarding their understanding of urban hospitality. Both relate urban hospitality to (infra) structural issues, welcoming, well-being, urban facilities, and tourist facilities offered in the city. Regarding the concept of São Bernardo/MA as hospitable, there were differences in the students' perceptions. Within the groups of AN students and ANN students, there were different perceptions, reinforcing the polysemic and individual nature of hospitality. When it comes to the concept of hospitality, the reasons are related to aspects of friendliness, welcoming, and politeness of the town's residents. On the other hand, when the concept of hospitality is not attributed, the reasons are related to the lack of urban (infrastructure), accessibility, leisure and entertainment options, diversity of restaurants and accommodation, sanitation, signage, and virtual information. As a result, despite the positive aspects, it was concluded that São Bernardo cannot yet be considered a hospitable city. There is a notable need for progress in infrastructure, safety, leisure options, and accessibility, which are obstacles to considering São Bernardo/MA a hospitable city. The municipality needs to find ways to address these aspects so that it can be considered a hospitable place for both tourists and its residents.
