Projeto seres vivos na escola: desafios e oportunidades da extensão universitária no ensino municipal de Grajaú-Ma

Abstract

RESUMO: O presente artigo foi desenvolvido a partir do projeto de ensino e extensão: “Seres Vivos na Escola”, executado por estudantes do Curso de Ciências Naturais da Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA) do Centro de Ciências de Grajaú. Tendo em vista que o ensino prático em escolas públicas é precário e pouco prestigiado devido a infraestrutura das escolas públicas municipais, este artigo busca apresentar os desafios que foram encontrados na execução da extensão deste projeto e tem o intuito de apontar oportunidades dessa iniciativa de extensão universitária. Durante três temporadas, turmas do 7° ano do Ensino Fundamental foram recebidas na UFMA, para participarem de aulas teórica sobre a vida e práticas de microbiologia, ornitologia, geologia, corpo humano e botânica, aproveitando a infraestrutura de laboratórios da universidade. Nestes três anos, foram atendidos 859 alunos de 29 escolas públicas municipais envolvendo na sua execução cerca de 40 colaboradores da UFMA, dentre alunos de graduação, técnicos de laboratório e professores. Os desafios enfrentados são a falta de importância dada ao projeto que se refletem no alto número de desistências e problemas no transporte dos alunos. Como o projeto tem caráter universal e permanente, ou seja, tem por objetivo atingir todos os alunos do município com novas metodologias alternativas e construtivistas no ensino de Biologia, apontamos como oportunidade o estabelecimento de convênio entre a Secretaria Municipal de Educação e a universidade de forma que as responsabilidades fiquem bem definidas.___ABSTRACT: This article was developed from the teaching and extension project: “Seres Vivos na Escola”, carried out by students from the Natural Sciences Course at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) at the Grajaú Science Center. Considering that practical teaching in public schools is precarious and not very prestigious due to the infrastructure of municipal public schools, this article seeks to present the challenges that were encountered in carrying out the extension of this project and aims to point out opportunities in this university extension initiative . For three seasons, 7th year elementary school classes were welcomed at UFMA to participate in theoretical classes on life and practices in microbiology, ornithology, geology, the human body and botany, taking advantage of the university's laboratory infrastructure. In these three years, 859 students from 29 municipal public schools were served, involving around 40 UFMA employees, including undergraduate students, laboratory technicians and teachers. The challenges faced are the lack of importance given to the project, which is reflected in the high number of dropouts and problems with student transportation. As the project has a universal and permanent character, that is, it aims to reach all students in the municipality with new alternative and constructivist methodologies in the teaching of Biology, we point out as an opportunity the establishment of an agreement between the Municipal Department of Education and the university in a way that responsibilities are well defined.
